Sick Homeless Family of Kittens is Rescued from Life on the Streets
Hope for Paws were contacted about a mother cat and her litter of kittens hiding out in a back yard, so JoAnn headed out to rescue this family.
As soon as she spotted them she could tell that they suffered from Cerebellar Hypoplasia.
This is a developmental condition where part of the brain is not fully formed and can result in a lack of coordination, it’s also known as “wobbly cat syndrome.”
It most often occurs when the mother cat is infected with Panleukopenia when pregnant. Thankfully it’s not a life threatening condition.
Before long JoAnn was able to secure one of the kittens but mom and her other kitten got away.
Three weeks prior to this the woman that was feeding the cats found another littler of kittens in the bushes and one of these kittens also has “wobbly cat syndrome.”
So Hope for Paws offered to take in these kittens as well.
JoAnn named them Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Elton John.
With all of the other kittens now safe, JoAnn went back to try and rescue the other kitten and her mom.
The mission was successful and both mom and her daughter were rescued, they were named Joan Jett and Stevie Nicks.
Sadly, it was discovered that Stevie (the kitten) had Feline Infectious Peritonitis.
She was humanely euthanized as this disease is 100% fatal.
On a better note, her rock star siblings are all healthy and getting ready for adoption.
